People of Walmart

This morning I found this site People Of Walmart, it is a collection of pictures of people found in Walmarts. It is quite a funny collection of pictures and the type of people and some of the things people wear Walmart or not!  I am not a fan of Walmart and what it stands for and how they treat their employees both in the stores and in the factory’s where the products are made.

I feel as though Walmart is all about connsumtion with no thought to what it is doing to people’s lives and our earth.  My boyfriend and I have made a pact to no longer shop at Walmart! Yes it is cheap but is it worth it in the bigger picture of things?

A note on Walmart…..Well, I’ve been known to be a Walmart hater for a long time. To me one of the worst things about Walmart (and other massive multinational corporations like it) is of course the horried state of mass production (1000′s of young women working over 10 hours in a stinky, noisy factory all day doing the same monotonous thing..bad for your health, bad for your soul). And of course it’s the environmental degradation that is created by all the super cheap crap they sell that only ends up breaking, fading, or simply stop working in a very short while leading you back to Walmart. And of course there is the visual and noise pollution along with the complete lack of healthy human interaction. Everyone loves a smal, cozy street with little markets and boutiques, maybe cafe’s lining the streets…the sounds of people laughing and talking and the existence of actual people working in stores and restaurants communicating with one another and their clients. At a Walmart, you may see the same teller selling you crap every other week and I can guess you have no idea what his or her name is even though it is written on their shirt or any idea what they look like. When you walk upto a walmart, its an eyesore, a football field sized slab of tarmack. Inside is the blinding lights, the factory like setting and of course (the worst for me) the sounds! All you hear is beep, beep, beep, beep “price check in aisle 5″ beep, beep…every beep putting more money into the wallet of the Walton family and their investors. But I haven’t even shared yet, the absolute worst part of Walmart yet. To me, the absolute disgusting and frustrating thing about Walmart is that they have so much power that even someone like me who is clearly moraly and esthetically and politically opposed to monopolizing mass production busineses such as Walmart, still must shop there from time to time. I hate it! How can I be so opposed to such a place and still occasions come up where I feel I have no choice. Or I simply can’t find other options. That is the worst part. That is probably every corp’s wetdream…to be so grand in scale and so much cheaper than everyone else, even middle class intelligent and politcally opposed individuals still contribute to amassing them more wealth.

this isn’t a deep thought, but wow, if i could have taken pictures of all the people i have seen wearing weird things in wal-mart…ha ha!

Oh Vicki I so agree with you! The sad thing is is that the middle class is dying and no matter how intelligent you are or how morally right you are we will all have to shop at Walmart or one of their parent companies more then once in awhile. And the fact that they are getting into the food market scares me.
To think that most of people’s food come from Walmart or one of their parent companies is a very scary thought. All the farmers and farmer families that I grew up will be gone because they will either be bought out by a large company or taken down by a large company. Which in turn all the food will go to the biggest buyers in the world, Walmart.
