Outgoing Mail & A Swap

It has been sometime since I have posted about snail mail or wrote anything on here for that matter and that is all due to big changes in my life! I quite my job December 2013 and spent mot of 2014 traveling through Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Turkey, Prague, Germany, Belgium and Austria. After travel I moved out of Montreal where I had been living for 8 years and back to Winnipeg (where my family is). I needed to disconnect from the life I was living to create the new life and journey I wanted to be on. Blogging has always been a great outlet for me (I will be working on the visual of my site in the weeks to come), along with pen pals and simple kind mail exchanges.

So without further a due here are some fun pieces of mail I sent out in the last week or so. I have also started a Instagram account just for my mail obsession @hearts_via_airmail and there is also my personal one where you can see many photos of my travels @thehouseofheart

I found Syakira aka Potato Panic through SendSomething! Does anyone else use this to send surprise mail to lovely people around the world?

Tag your it!

I was tagged by Allison of Show & Tell to do a little Q & A!

  1. Post these rules
  2. Post 11 random things about yourself
  3. Answer the questions provided by the one who tagged you
  4. Create 11 new questions for the people you tag
  5. Go to their blog and tell them they’ve been tagged!

  1. I learned how to fly a plane before I was 12 years old.
  2. I am half German and half Hungarian. My grandfather came over to Canada on a boat from Hungary.  Those are some of my favourite stories he tells.
  3. Lions are my favourite animal.
  4. Atlases are my favourite books and I asked for a new one for my birthday every year.
  5. I never finished grade 7, I just skipped right over to grade 8. Nerd! I also went to the only University high school in Canada for my final year of high school. Double Nerd!
  6. Pure nature calms everything within me.  I wish I lived in a little cabin tucked away from it all surrounded by water and mountains.
  7. I was a BIG tomboy growing up and wore jeans for the first time in high school.  It was sweat pants all the way for this girl!
  8. I was a skier from the young age of 3 till I was 15, than I made the switch to snowboarding.  I’ve been a snow bunny my whole life.
  9. I keep all the fortunes from the fortunes cookies I eat.
  10. I LOVE BASKETBALL!!! Ahem. I mean I really am starting to love basketball.  Paul has even taken me to two games in Toronto.
  11. I worked at a daycare for 2 years and loved it so much.  I would take the kids on field trips every other week.  My favourite place to take them which quickly became theirs as well was the airport.   Watching the planes take off and land, talk about the countries they thought each plane was flying too.  Such amazing times, man kids can sure teach us all something.

If you had the day off, what would you do?

Winter: I would spend it surfing Google Maps and virtually walk the streets of cities I have never been somewhere random in the world.    Along with drinking lots of coffee, a bubble bath & book action and of course kitty petting.

Summer/Spring/Fall: Get out my bike and explore places of this city I have yet to uncover for myself.  Or Visit the market and pick up something yummy, than bike down the canal and have a little picnic.

Who is your favorite cartoon character?

I would have to say Madeline from the collection of children’s books by Ludwig Bemelmans.  Even though the books where written well before my time, there was something about Madeline’s curious spirit that always stuck by me.  I remember reading one of these books for the first time at the public library in the town I grew up in. It was summer time and they always had reading contents throughout.  I received many gold stars that summer.

What book do you display just to impress guests?

We have a lot of books laying around our house but we very seldom have guests over. Right now the books that are out in our house are:

Are you a dog or a cat person?

My whole life I have been a dog person, since I was always allergic to cats. That all changed a cold February evening 3 years ago while Paul was on a snowboarding trip with his friend. The little cat that we had been feeding for a few months decided to jump into our loft (I would leave the window open just incase she wanted to come in but could have the food either way).

Describe an awkward high school moment?

Eazy! It was grade 12 I started at a new school, drank to much at a party and I vomited in a ‘cool’ guys car. I stopped talking to everyone after that and focused on my studies. Funny thing is years later I was out with friends and he had become good friends with one of my guys friends. Super awkward!

What part of your morning regiment can you NEVER skip?

Brushing my teeth & having a cup of coffee (I am seriously addicted!)

What was the last album that you purchased?

I can’t even remember the last album I purchased, it must of been a record from the thrift shop. Yup, The Sound Of Music it was. To bad our record player isn’t working ;(

How do you sign your emails?

Much Love,

Kind Regards, (If it is a more business than pleasure)

What’s one of your guilty pleasures?

Dark Chocolate and Red Wine. Put those two together along with me in the room and you have a party!

What’s one food that you could eat every day?

Chips! Any flavour, I just love the salt.

If you could sing like anyone, who would it be?

Billie Holiday.

(and anyone else who wants to participate):

  1. What did you dream of being when you were a little kid?
  2. Your top 3 travel destinations.
  3. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
  4. If there is one thing you want to be remembered for what would that be?
  5. What do you do to pamper yourself?
  6. What is something you are proud of yourself for?
  7. Are you a lefty or a righty?
  8. What’s your favourite thing to whip up in the kitchen? (Did I mention I like recipes?)
  9. Favourite cocktail?
  10. What’s one thing you do daily that makes you feel pretty?
  11. What songs would be on your soundtrack to your life?

Long Overdue Mail Call

Just a few pieces I sent out yesterday.

I wish I could just spend the day writing letters and creating pretty things that will bring smiles to those receiving them.  I guess that is what the weekends are for!  Hope your having a delightful week so far.

Until we meet again,

Much Love Monday & Google Friend Connect Retires

{~ beautiful card created by objet ~}

You know when you feel so loved by someone you see only a handful of times in your lifetime?  Well that is what I felt when I got this beautiful card in the mail from my dear friend Jodie Layne.

Today I am loving:

♥ That Google Street View is to start mapping out the Great Barrier Reef in Australia in September.  The efforts are to set benchmarks that will help study the effect of climate and environmental changes on this massive eco-system. This is amazing and I can’t wait to start to see some of the images. I highly suggest you check out this article and video on the subject.

♥ The little kitty that is sleeping on my lap and prrring away. Sweet little thing! I wish my camera was within arms reach.

♥ All the snow we got over the weekend. It looks beautiful outside and finally feels like winter after having spring for most of the winter. Not looking forward to having to dig out the car though.

On another note:

This morning I am ‘frantically’ trying to get everything in line for Google Friend Connect to retire from all NON-Blogger sites as of March 1st!

I knew this day was coming and didn’t want to believe it as for the past 3 years of blogging I have made some great friends and readers through Google Friend Connect and with it retiring there is potential for a dramatic decrease my readership.  BOO!!!  But that is how the internet works right? If something is not working as planned it is scrapped and replaced with something better. Although I am not convinced that Google+ is a better replacement but that is for another post.

So this is what I propose if you are following through GFC. Follow along with the below links instead!

RSS (which you can add to your Google Reader)

Well that is all from me for now. Thank you so much in advance for helping me make switch from relying on Google Friend Connect! I even had a SUPER AWESOME giveaway lined up for when I hit 200 Readers. Don’t worry the giveaway will happen either way!

What are you loving this Monday?

Need a little more love to kick start your day? Check out Anna’s got you covered!

Until we meet again!

This week kicked my butt and really I didn’t surf the web at all.  So here are a few things I found beautiful and interesting this week.

  • Simple, beautiful and inspiring typography video by Holstee to get your weekend off to a passionate start.  I found this video via Frugal Beautiful.  This video really makes me want to take Mary (yes my bike has a name!) out for a ride since we have been having beautiful spring weather here in Montreal.
  • I can’t get enough of Chelsea of Aesthetic of Lostness. She is living my dream. Traveling the world and freelancing while she does it. Simply brilliant!  Her Printa, Budapest post gets me every time as I am half Hungarian and wish to travel back to my grandparents homeland.

Until we meet again,

Take Action!

You know when something seems like it was customized just for you?  I sure do.  When I watched this video below for the first time I thought for sure someone found my journal and wrote Marie on behalf of myself.  So clearly I am not alone in this ‘rut’.  No more reason to be embarrassed about where I am in my life!

Have you ever felt this way? Know that you are not alone and by you being honest with yourself and others only opens the door for them to be honest as well with you as well. Let’s kick this lack of motivation in the butt and get shit done together!

What have you been putting off due to lack of motivation?

Until we meet again,

Shout Out for Jodeb

You may ask who is Jodeb?  Well he is one of Paul’s friend and one damn good director and an amazing VFX artist.

Now when the news hit Paul that Jo would be be directing a Cypress Hill music video, clearly he wanted to go and meet one of his favourite bands, but business is business. One thing I have to say is that Jo is such a genuine guy through and through. Even though he has jumped up that latter with his talent and crazy imagination he has not let it get to his head.  Living in Montreal you see clearly and quickly who let is genuine and real, but I digress.

This video just came out today so sit down and be prepared to be blown away! It does have mature content so be warned!

Here is the behind the scenes of the music video which is always one of my favourite parts.  You’ll even see Jo in there!

Focus on your craft, give all that is within you to your passion and good things will come your way sooner or later.

Congrats Jo on another amazing and out of this world video!

Until next time,

Much Love Monday

{Little Sketch of myself for Miss Pickle’s Art Call}

Today I am loving:

The ‘pain’ my body feels from the intense hot yoga class I took yesterday.  I think I will have to go again tonight to loosen up.

Searching for just the right vacation for myself, mom and sister for my birthday.  Right now it is looking like Cozumel, Mexico | Montego Bay, Jamaica or Cartagena, Colombia (this is my first pick as I have always dreamed of visiting all the South American countries)

All the kind comments I found on my blog this morning.

Need some more love this morning? Anna has a beautiful list of sites sharing some love.

What are you loving today?

Until Next Time. Much Love,

{Toy Story Series by Aled Lewis.  You can buy your prints here.}

We are there! The sweet sweet day of Friday where you can let your mind wonder on what your weekend will hold for you. Mine holds lots of work, yoga and a Skype date with my cousin (Can’t wait!).

♥ Great Little Guide to Inspiration

♥ Interesting case study on Freelance Photography: Digital vs. Film

♥ Watched the first 10 episodes of New Girl this week and I just feel sweeter ;)

♥ After the death of NDP leader Jack Layton I think many young people felt a little ‘fearful’ of the direction Canada is going with no strong opposition.  This week Justin Trudeau made profound statements which of course people are blowing out of proportion but you can form your own option after watching this video.  I am just a fan of honesty and there is a transparency with Mr. Trudeau that gives me a bit of peace of mind for our great countries future.

♥ Don’t fit the conventional box?  Me neither, along with a slew of others I know but Marie Forleo is passionate about getting people like us to reach our highest dreams!

♥ This week on the blog I shared a delicious no bake energy bites recipe, introduced you to my February sponsors and shared some love on Monday.
