a lovely day out of the house

Posted by Crystal on Mar 12, 2010 in Random

lately i have been feeling a little overwhelmed, home sick and exhausted.  my grandfather is also ill and they are not sure how long he will live so that has been very hard on me as i am close with my grandfather. although in the past 2 and half years i have been living a 27 hour drive away from my home.  so really home sick and ready to go see my family.

yesterday for me was really a breath of fresh air, Paul’s parents came into town and we had a great lunch with them.  then Charlotte (Paul’s mom) and I had a girls afternoon out and that is just what i needed, mom time.   as my mom is so far away Charlotte has really become my second mom out here in Montreal and I can’t thank her enough for making me feel so at home.  (I know you are reading this Charlotte so Thank You!)

it was such a beautiful day in Montreal yesterday that we went for a walk down St-Laurent.  went into some small food markets to look at all the wonderful imported items and their packaging, picked up a few Spanish books for Charlotte, went into some great vintage shops and had a great talk over coffee.  it was just wonderful and i feel refreshed!

one of the vintage shops we went into was just beautiful so i wanted to bring it to your attention!  Kitsch ‘n Swell (3968 blvd. st-laurent) has this soft, warm, womanly smell that engulfs you when you walk into the store, they have so many amazing retro house hold items, clothing, paper goods and footwear!  behind the counter there was a super sweet lady in a beautiful blue big polka dotted 50s dress with bright red lipstick.  i wanted to take a picture of her as she looked like she just walked out of the 50s.  so if you are every in Montreal i strongly recommend checking it out (there are also 2 other vintage shops near by!)

thanks to listen to my little rant.  i hope everyone out there is doing great and that sunshine is coming your way!

illustrator shout out - mc bess

Posted by Crystal on Mar 10, 2010 in Art Work, Illustrations, Shout Out

while doing some more blog surfing over the weekend.  which recently has become one of my favorite past times.  i came across mographtv which you should really check out for all things in the motion world.  there i found mc bess video wood.

WOOD from mc bess on Vimeo.

now i am not sure if mc bess is an animator or not but he clearly had a studio  of talented people to work with because that video is amazing and clearly took a lot of time, patience and talent to complete.   what i am sure of is that mc bess is a damn good illustrator.   below are some of my favorite illustrations of his.  i love that most of his illustrations are just black and white as i am a huge fan of ink drawings.

i hope you enjoyed this shout out! if you have an artist you think i might just like.

give me a shout through the comments and let me know.

they might just end up on my blog!

better together

Posted by Crystal on Mar 8, 2010 in Art Work, Inspirations

good monday morning everyone!  i had a wonderful weekend just relaxing, dreaming, walking, enjoying the sun and hanging out with my boyfriend.  so after a great weekend i feel like i am in spring bliss.

so i thought that this animated commercial for match.com is so appropriate.  now i am not sure if you have seen it before or not but i don’t watch tv so i don’t see all the commercials so enjoy again if you have seen it. if not you are in for some great and cute animation.

beautifully wonderful friday

Posted by Crystal on Mar 5, 2010 in Random, Shout Out

this week has really flown by for me.  it has felt like i have been in a magically wonderland this week.  i think a lot of it has to do the fact that i have now seen sun for a whole week and it is giving me this euphoric feeling after seeing grey for so long.  either way it is a feels great to feel so alive and creative.

what i want to share with you is this beautiful vintage package i received in the mail this week from the “get to know me knick knack exchange” that dinosaur toes put on.  everyone was assigned a partner and my partner was the lovely serrah russell.  she sent such beautiful things to me a card, amazing tea cup & saucer, candy dish (which looks great on my dresser in my bedroom!), a vintage gold frame with a black & white tree picture by serrah and a great broach which looks like it was created out of the lens of glasses.  such great additions to my vintage collection.

thank you so much serrah!

Made sure to check out here:

Below is my favorite of her work. I think because the lady in the glasses looks so much like my mom when she was younger.

Happy Friday Everyone.  I hope you do something wonderful with your weekend.

happy early birthday present to me

Posted by Crystal on Mar 4, 2010 in Inspirations

well yesterday was exactly a month away from my birthday and i thought to myself.  i deserve an early birthday present this year.  so with lots of searching for the perfect gift from me to me i found it, and what is it you may ask?  i bought a japanese adult couture dress pattern book with 26 patterns for dresses, blouses, skirts, pants and jackets. i can’t wait to get it and start sewing some of my own pieces to wear.  here is a peek at some of my favorites from the book.

{book along with many other great pattern books can be found at pomadour 24 on etsy}

{the dress to the left is what i am going to make first out of this book i think}

well i hope this has inspired you to do something for you today. it doesn’t have to mean buy something for you but take the time to create something, read something beautiful and spend some time with someone you love.

hope you all have a beautiful day.  now i’m off to the post office and then back to post some more items in the shop!

I thought since I am making little goals for myself for the months I would share some of them with you.  This as well keeps me accountable because some of them on the list scare me (like sewing a dress for myself) .

this month I want:

* a few beautiful moments with my boyfriend.
* to sew a new pretty dress for myself.
* make 30 sales in my shop.
* take a walk along the canal on a sunny day.
* buy an SLR camera.
* find a rolling pin and bake an apple pie.
* talk to my family more.

N.E.E.T. Magazine

Posted by Crystal on Mar 1, 2010 in Random, Shout Out

As some of you know I have an ad in an online magazine that my amazing boyfriend Paul created for me, but this is not your average online magazine.  N.E.E.T. is packed full of all the things I ♥!  Fashion, Vintage, Art and Blogging (ok not all because Paul is not in this mag).  So really it is a buffet of interest in one little magazine that you can never lose or miss place as it is always at neetmagazine.com

Take a peek in the mag to find my ad and great articles like my favorites Paper Garden By Karin Nussbumer (Pages 34 - 45) and Things You’ve Been Meaning To Do Illustrations by Joanna Neborsky (Pages 181 - 201).

Happy Reading!

the last few days

Posted by Crystal on Mar 1, 2010 in Inspirations, Random

i really feel like i have been neglecting my blog lately,  but with good reason.  i have been thrifting like there is no tomorrow and of course putting things up in the shopt.  only problem now is that i have been borrowing a camera and well i had to give it but now i only have a point and shoot.  so we will see how that goes for the little things (hopefully the shoes will work i have 20 new ones to post!) but i am hoping that my taxes will bring in enough money to pay for a new camera (plus birthday money since my birthday is coming up shortly!!!)

but what i want to tell you about is the lovely package exhange that oh, hello friend is putting together.  i of course have signed up for it as i love package exchanges.  they remind me so much of when i was a kid and teenager and had pen pals all over the world.  i still have most of the letters and packages back at my mom’s.

now if you like getting pretty things in the mail like me and creating beautiful packages then this is the exchange for you.  click on the image to find out all the sweet little details.

i hope you will join me and all the wonderful other exchangers. you might even make a new friend!

dreamy baking goods

Posted by Crystal on Feb 25, 2010 in Inspirations

well with having a clean kitchen and while doing some baking i have realized i don’t really have what i need to bake things right.  so below is a list of pictures with my dream baking/cooking supplies!

{i love the retro glass mixing bowls and this set from Sass Box Classics is just beautiful!}

{wooden spoons are key in mixing monster cookies which I realized the other day.}

{you must have a cute timer to make sure you don’t bake the goods.}

{trust me this rolling pin from Harlow Monroe Vintage would of come in handy when i baked that apple pie.  but no i used an old wine bottle and the pie still tasted amazing!}

{Paul says I use these to much and well I do because I love them & you can tell by the wear on ours! these beauties are made by the lovely Rachael Ray}

{these baking sheets remind me of my mom and as you can tell by monster cookie post, i need new baking sheets!}

{we had these in beige while i was young. they really remind me of baking cinnamon buns… mmmm. these bright beauties are found at Floh Markt on Etsy}

{now if your going to have the dry measuring cup you need the liquid one too & get it from Vintage by Alex Keller}

{i just realized that everything i picked out here is orange which i love but my kitchen is red, black and white and that is why i dream about using this KitchenAid 90th anniversary mixer in candy apple red. i love that this has the glass mixing bowl. so classic.}

well i hope you enjoyed my collection of dream kitchen ware.  i’m hoping the thrifting gods will be good and bring the vintage goods my way.
